Yamaki-Shuzoten

“Kai Otokoyama” – quality sake brewed by using the treasured waters of Mt. Yatsugatake

Yamaki-Shuzoten
Since1862

Yamaki Shuzoten was founded in the closing days of the Edo Shogunate (1862). Around that time, the Namamugi Incident and Anglo-Satsuma War erupted, followed by Taisei Hokan (restoration of imperial rule) a few years later. It is said that founder Nakaemon Yamaki started brewing sake in Kurosawa Village at the southern foot of Mt. Yatsugatake in Kai Province. Since the establishment of the brewery, its sake has been distributed under brand names “Kai Otokoyama,” “Kabuto Masamune,” etc.

The brand name “Otokoyama” is derived from Iwashimizu-Hachimangu Shrine in Kyoto. The shrine was then called Otokoyama-Hachimangu Shrine, where the deities of sake are enshrined.
